The Verdict

Today, I come to you as my vulnerable self. I have a ton of emotions right now, and I'm sitting on pins and needles. Over the past month we have seen countless mass shootings across the United States. I'm all for the 2nd amendment, but there has to be a way for us to compromise and make common sense policy that allows us to control who is allowed to bear arms. Implementing mandatory background checks is something that is universally supported by both Democrats and Republicans.

It should not be this hard in order to come up with bi-partisan legislation that goes beyond a president signing an executive order.

Next Up, and probably the most important thing that I will write today, is the pending verdict of the Derrick Chauvin case. Regardless of guilt or innocence, we have already lost. When we have folks around the country stating that even with a conviction there will still be riots, and violence. To me, that just doesn't make sense. I feel that as a society we have to raise kids to understand right from wrong. We also have to expose them to times when things will be unjust. It just so happens that the most unjust happens to the poor and disenfranchised but even in that there's a lesson.

The Floyd family, just like every other family that has experienced an early departure of life has stated they want peaceful protests.

Please don't think I'm disconnected because I'm not. I deal with the pressures of being Black in America daily. It actually hits a little harder when you work in white dominated spaces. The expectation is that you hold it together, and be the example for your people. But quite honestly, sometimes you just want to tear things up. The key is to find a healthy balance. This week finding that balance has been rather difficult. So I've taken to my blog to help get me through this. Thanks for rocking with me.
