That DMX Energy Is Forever!
His prayers on his albums showed his connectedness with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For all of the Demons, he had to overcome; I truly believe that his relationship with God was authentic.
The outpour of love for DMX is commendable. However, just like many other celebrities that transition to the afterlife, we do little to pay homage to this artist when they are in life form. We have to do a better job of celebrating our heroes while they are here. On Earth, society villanized DMX. His demons magnified. As a Black man, we see all too often when addictions become criminalized. As a society, we have to do better with supporting folks that suffer from addiction.
DMX dropped two solo albums in 1998. Everyone everywhere was singing DMX songs. He was that type of artist. I remember campus center parties, and when "Get At Me Dog" came on, it was our mayhem. These two CDs got me through some dark days as an undergrad. They gave me the will to push through during one of the most challenging periods in my young adult life. I'm not sure if DMX knew his music's impact on others, but I feel honored to have known his artistry through his music. I will forever celebrate his life through his music.
